The opening of Oasis Balbala was a noisy, joyful event! This new two room library is the new sister of Oasis Tadjourah. The centre is located in Balbala, the large municipality outside of the capital city.

The hope for this library is to be a blessing, an oasis, to its family dominated neighbourhood. While geared towards women and children, all are welcome to visit the library. There are books in three languages, games and toys for children and an area for studying. The centre is a place of learning, creativity and friendship.
After receiving permission and being eagerly welcomed by the President of the municipality of Balbala, Oasis opened on Sunday, 25th February with a celebration. About 40 children attended and greatly enjoyed the cake and games.

The following Tuesday afternoon was the first day the centre opened for ‘normal hours’. Over 30 children returned.

In its initial phase, the Oasis will be open three to four times a week. With more human resources the project leader hopes to be able to expand. Further plans of the project are:
conversation classes in English with young ladies
crafting classes
homework assistance
reading training in French, Somali and English.
The Oasis centre is a place for the community to grow and bloom!
